August Oath Complete

First painting news is I attended a day at a workshop in Liverpool, had an excellent time and learnt a lot of really interesting techniques to work on, it was hosted by John and taught by Chris, Chris is an amazing painter, responsible for one of my favorite models ever, http://www.coolminiornot.com/304069?browseid=2631106 , it was well worth the time effort and money, can't wait for another one, can't seem to get a decent photo of the metallics I worked on there, its just too damn shiny for my set up.

Anyway, finished my oath, gave myself a tight deadline but cheated by only doing the minimum amount of models, all done now, here's a group shot

Here's a few close ups of each marine, went for a decent table-top standard on these as its just going to be for playing a few games with more than anything, a bit more went into the Sarge, his face is pretty decent, the leather strap was looking really good, until I fucked up some free-hand on it and had to redo it, balls.

and for the Kaptin's Log, I filed off the terrible tiny mohawk from the sarge and replaced it with some painted on head-stubble, as you can see better here, also I painted on a scar, because, you know, why not?

Painting update

Just a quick one, its been a month since my last update nearly, have yet to start my Oath, only said I'd do 3 Space Marines, so it shouldn't take long to be honest.

Missed a session on the painting group, but, the Nurgle Lord progress is good, he looks pretty great so far, even if I am leaning towards 'Eavy Metal too much, not intentional, but, I guess if you've spent most of your life looking at one style, it creeps into your painting!

Anyway, he's a quick pic!

See, not too bad, the skin looks good, the armour looks pretty good too so far, this should turn out well!

Kans! Killa Kans!

Wow, long time no blog! Its been a while since I've finished a model, and WIP has been slow, but, here we go, mob of Killa Kans are  done! Overly weathered I think though, went OTT with the sponge on them! Still, i think they're quite cool all in all!

Getting the army slowly painted! Since the last blog I've now played 3 games of 40K, great fun! Who knew!? Playing in a doubles match on Thursday, looking forward to it.

Anyway, some cans!

My favorite one, drew a little snarly face on a rokkit and his pose is the most fun.

This was the first one I put together, he has a converted Rokkit arm, but other wise its a pretty stock pose, a but dull really, whats he doing just standing there?

This one is quite cool, the best rokkit conversion and a nice striding forward pose, I like him..

Really need to sort out a good lens for this. Sorry!

Oath Complete!

Finished off my June Oath for the SA Thread!

Had such a good time with it, so, here is a picture dumb of my finished models!
These have to be my favorite models I've done so far, really proud of the Ork especially.

Here he is from the front

And the back

And now the Minotaurs Space Marine Commander, he had magnetized arms to let him swap over weapons, happy with how that worked too!

With a Power Sword and Bolt Pistol, the Power Sword looks
great from the front, not so great from the back though!

Now with a Power Fist and Combi-Melta

And from the back

Every month has a "secret ingredient" for the month that you can include for extra points, this month you had to do something a little extra, I used the magnets, but you also had to write a short story about your models, I've not written a story since school really, so, I had a go and this is what I came up with!

Inceladon’s power armoured boots crunched the dark, grey rubble beneath his feet, he glanced back as his honour guard followed him onto the planet's surface, weapons checked and ready for battle. It had been a long time since the Minotaurs had been on Korvak. He surveyed the horizon, taking in the scenery that long years of bloody fighting had etched in his mind.

…..

Ork blood stained the humming power sword that was his new badge of office, thumbing off the energy field, he cleaned the ancient blade off on his cape, around him his squad put bolter rounds through the mis-shappen heads of the greenskins that still squirmed, while Brother-Apothecary Enkelious performed his grisly duty on the fallen. The last wave of savages had taken its toll on his company's position, the massive hordes being sent out by the Warboss were doing their job, between them and the primitive aircraft, the Third Company was pinned down.

The Thunderhawks would arrive soon to lift them out of this warp-cursed hell hole, the attack had failed and although the Orks had been driven from this world, Warboss Snikgrub had made his escape with most of the manufacturing worlds weaponry. The newly appointed Captain Inceladon and the Third Company hadn’t been able to stop him.
The final assault had taken its toll on him but the failure would weigh more heavily on his shoulders.

….

Thick oily smoke rose from the ruined city in the distance, the crude engines of the Ork war-horde could be heard even this far away. Fifty years had passed since the Space Marines had defended Korvak but now, the battle would once more be joined. Captain Inceladon had won back his honour many times over in the decades that had passed and had won the right to bear many honoured relics of his Chapter, yet, in his heart, he knew that we would never be truly considered a hero of the Minotaurs while one burden lay on him.

That would change this day, sparks crackled along the surface of his brazen power fist as he clenched in anticipation. Snikgrub was out there and this time, the victory would belong to the Third Company.

This months Oath was really good fun, enjoyed every second, awesome competition!

Monday Painting!

Had today off work, managed to do a lot of painting, watched Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia and relaxed, its been a good day.

Went to town to meet some people for painting at the Games Workshop, then moved over to the Scythe when that closed, did a lot of work on my Ork Warboss, going to call him done for now, needs to be based and thats it for him.

Really happy with how the face pops and the sore looking skin where the power klaw is attached. The colours all seem to work well and it has a decent balance to it as well.

Some WIP

Last night was good fun, went to the Games Workshop midnight pre-order part, the whole painting group were there, so it was enjoyable, we sat round and painted till about 1 am and ordered the new rule book and bitched about the rest of the customers.

Getting pretty excited for 6th edition now, its looking great and now that I finally know a decent group of people to play with, I might get some gaming done for the first time in years!

So, finally, here are some pictures of what I've been working on over the last few weeks:

Got the basecoat done on my Ork Warboss for the June Oath, and started work on his tabard, really happy with how it came out, still a lot to be done on him, but I should easily be able to finish this off for Wednesday.

Also been working on my Minotaurs Chapter Space Marine Commander, he's pretty much finished and is magantised to have a choice of 4 different weapons, looking good and I've started on a Combat squad of stripped Space Marines to go with him!

Also done more work on the Ogre, the pants, I was trying to use a colour contrast as well as a light-dark contrast, using a purpley kind of brown colour, using more dark purple in the shadows and working up to a contrasting yellow, sadly, its not worked out very well and hasn't gone with the rest of the model very well.

Next up, more painting! Have to finish the first two models by Wednesday to complete the oath as I'm off to London on Thursday! No idea what to do more next month, I might wait till I see what the secret ingredient is. I'll be back on Wednesday with the finished models!

Not great at this!

Ok, so, bit of a gap between blog posts, not like I've been busy, I just sort of forgot if I'm honest.

Been getting really excited about Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition, going to go down to Games Workshop Liverpool for midnight on Friday for what everyone now knows is the pre-order party, should be fun and they get to take more of my money, so, everyone is a winner.
I might even play the game this time round.

Anyway, as far as painting progress goes, not a lot this week, started work on this months Oath for the Something Awful thread, The AoBR Ork Warboss and a Space Marine Commander box, I took a while going through everything I could find to get the right Space Marine chapter, almost fell back on my first army, Blood Angels, but the new direction they've gone in, while really cool, wasn't for me, it just seems a little too fancy and ornate for Space Marines, so, although I know I shouldn't have, I chose Minotaurs, I worked on a test mini, an old Sergeant model I'd stripped and the first thing I tried looked great and took no time at all, it was almost cheating, still, I like them and it was so much fun doing those two marines, I had them both near enough finished in a few days. Still putting off the freehand I think the Commanders cloak needs though, not quite confident I can pull that off!

The Warboss got started, but he only has a few base colours down so far, nothing interesting, also, no photos yet!

Painting group tomorrow, will be at the Scythe and Teacup round the corner instead of Games Workshop, think we may have outstayed our welcome there, still its closer to home and with their crappy selection of models, I'll be less tempted to buy things every week.

First Post!

I've been getting into painting miniatures a lot lately, making a lot of progress, so I thought I'd try and chart that with a blog like everyone else in the world. So that's what this is.

Every month I've been completing stuff for the Oath thread over at the Something Awful forums, you have to vow to do at least a few models every month, there are prizes and the whole thing is really well organised and fun, I've been working on my Warhammer 40,000 Orks so far, just completed another six Boyz and two Trukks.

Here's the completed pic

Every month has a theme, that you get extra points for using, this month was weathering, which you can see some of here. My first time using weathering powders really, needs a tidy up on the panel.

Sadly, the other truck isn't as well done, this needs a lot of cleaning up

And a close up of some boyz

I really need to get a better lens for this stuff, the one I've got right now isn't working out well, doesn't get enough in focus really..

I have to decide what to oath for this month, the theme is to try something new this month and to write a short story about the model, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to do the Warboss (HQs count as 3 models, which is minimum), maybe assemble a diorama type thing with a Space Marine Commander, but then I'd need to decide which Marine Chapter to go for! Paralyzed with indecision!

As well as this, there has been a painting club at my local Games Workshop for the past few months, I've really enjoyed that, sadly it was cancelled tonight, but the guy teaching there has been excellent, but it has meant I've bought a lot more models that I usually would, oops. Today the only thing I've done is assemble a unit of Ogres, just for practice, I'm not going to start another army. That's what I keep telling myself anyway.

Ok, so that was my first blog post, I'll post again once I've made my oath I guess!
